mondays

Start the day gently with conscious movement and mindfulness. The check-in gives everyone the opportunity to share how they are feeling and any news they may have.

The time we live in has been called both “The age of information” and “The age of mis-information”. Never has it been more important to learn how to critically read, explore and think about the condition of the world we live in and how we can make a change for the better!
We will choose together which issues affecting our world we want to learn about, and learn what can be done about them!
My background with this: I am a peace activist from a war zone, a guest university lecturer in how to read media and have a degree in Education for Social Change (Nimrod).

Get some fresh air, move around, shake it all about.

What stories do people across the world tell about how the world began? How did they think people were created, and why does this even matter? We will look at monsters, chaos, nature, life, and early man as part of our “origins” theme this term.
This class is an opportunity to study the chosen topic in the context of its effect on human beings and on their complex relationships with each other, and can include any combination of history, culture studies, geography, sociology, psychology and religious studies.
My background with this: I have taught humanities for 9 years, and I love it! I have an MA in exploring the connection between how people think and how our society acts (Nimrod).

Time to eat your lunch, take a walk or hang out in the Common Room with your friends.

In this lesson of “Students Decide” we are going to be entrepreneurs! We will decide on an initiative we want to do – and we will actually do it! On the way we will learn important practical skills, manage a budget and interview experts,
My background with this: I am no great businessman myself, but I have initiated many social projects, such as a mini-music festival, a summer camp, an alternative shop, webinars and a tour of a theatre company (Nimrod).

Get some fresh air, move around, shake it all about.

We will “fly” to Spain and Latin America to discover fascinating cultures and countries. We will focus on Spanish as a living vibrant language, learning to communicate, laugh and sing in Spanish.
My background: I am a qualified Spanish-language teacher. I speak 5 and a half languages and lived in 4 different countries (Monica).

Everyone has something unique to say and when encouraged to write about that, writing flows from even the most reticent writer. The students can write about whatever they like in the form of poems, stories, diary entries or articles. The class begins with an introduction exploring an aspect of storytelling, e.g. how to make readers laugh, how to build a character, plot construction, different genres of fiction…
Then the students write about something connected to this or not, it is their choice! Feedback is always given on work handed in, and it is always positive and encouraging!

Improve your maths to discover how things work, to quicken your mind and to develop your analytical thinking. Take part in fun group games to grasp mathematical concepts.

The students decide together which books to study in Literature. They submit options, we read the first three pages together and then decide on a book to read over the following weeks. We pre-read pages at home and in class we discuss the themes, characters and events and connect to our own lives and the world we live in. A beautiful element of this class are the storied that students share about themselves that relate to the book we are reading.

* our homework is usually optional, however the reading at home is a necessary part of this class.

Time to eat your lunch, walk the dog or hang out in the Common Room with your friends.
