mondays

Start the day gently with conscious movement and mindfulness. The check-in gives everyone the opportunity to share how they are feeling and any news they may have.

When we read about something or see a report on TV or social media, how do we know it is true? How do we find out which sources of information are reliable? How can we tell when human behaviour is ethical and what criteria do we use to determine this? How do we deal with all this information! Never has critical thinking been more important in our culture.

Get some fresh air, move around, shake it all about.

Humanities is a combination of history, geography, citizenship and cultural studies. This helps us to understand each chosen topic in the context of its effect on human beings and on their complex relationships with each other.

Time to eat your lunch, take a walk or hang out in the Common Room with your friends.

Our ‘students decide’ sessions are an opportunity for students to study something different. Students receive a budget and are supported to decide together what they want to learn about and, if necessary, to find qualified, experienced people to work with them.

A playful, practical approach to learning languages that includes learning about Hispanic culture in Spain and Latin America. Students are more motivated to learn the language when they learn about the culture too as it brings the language to life and celebrates diversity. They also learn grammar step by step and develop their listening, speaking and writing skills.

Everyone has something unique to say and when encouraged to write about that, writing flows from even the most reticent writer. The students can write about whatever they like in the form of poems, stories, diary entries or articles. The class begins with an introduction exploring an aspect of storytelling, e.g. how to make readers laugh, how to build a character, plot construction, different genres of fiction…
Then the students write about something connected to this or not, it is their choice! Feedback is always given on work handed in, and it is always positive and encouraging!

The students decide together which books to study in Literature. They submit options, we read the first three pages together and then decide on a book to read over the following weeks. We pre-read pages at home and in class we discuss the themes, characters and events and connect to our own lives and the world we live in. A beautiful element of this class are the storied that students share about themselves that relate to the book we are reading.
